The entrance to the Indiana Sand Dune State Park was close to where I stayed for the night so I decided to check out the dunes first thing in the morning. The day was sunny, but still cold enough to leave thin rinds of snow unmelted in the dune shadows. I really liked the look of the old bathhouse, it reminded me of some of similar structures I remember seeing in La Jolla when I was young.
Factories flanked the small park on either ends, disturbing the otherwise tranquil setting and I couldn't help but think what was being dumped out into that expansive body of water. Whatever it was, it didn't smell. The lack of salt in the air or seaweed on the ground was uncanny.
Chicago seemed to rise up out of the water, it's grey blue towers made of hardened lake water and mist.
